Eat Healthy. Eat Local.

the hubster found a few really great things today and shared with me. and i, in turn, had to share them with you.
the first is a great article that talks about the impact of diet on overall health – specifically in the prevention of cancer. i do think that the impact is generalizable to a wide range of health concerns.
the second nugget that the hubster passed along was about the 3rd Annual Farm to Table Conference. would it surprise you to know that i am ridiculously excited about it? three months ago, i wouldn’t have even considered it. now? i can’t wait.
here is snippet of information about the conference from PopCity:
The region’s premier event for healthy eating and living, the 3rd Annual Farm to Table Conference, is the perfect place to connect with the abundance of products grown and produced right in our backyard.
“We’re the only metropolitan area that could support itself on local food,” says Erin Hart, coordinator for the conference. “Farmers would make more money if the food they grew were bought locally. We need to support our farms here.”
This year’s conference will continue to connect the region with its farmers by offering a 2-day event on Friday and Saturday April 3rd and 4th from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The popular Farmer’s Market will be back along with a cornucopia of food tastings, live cooking demonstrations, exhibitions and healthy eating events.

edit: i just realized the slight irony in the fact the eat local “chick” is a tomato. sigh.

Have you read Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver? http://www.amazon.com/Animal-Vegetable-Miracle-Year-Food/dp/0060852550
I haven’t read it yet but she has a restaurant near my yarn shop job called Harvest Table which uses mainly foods grown locally. I haven’t had a chance to eat there yet (my husband is a picky eater).

I thought you may find some interest in these.
